I can't stop listening to Bit Shifter's track on the Weezer tribute posted by Pterodactyl Squad. It's a chiptune cover of "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here", whose original version I didn't even remember hearing before (though I must have, since it's on their first album). I don't know if that's Bit Shifter himself singing-- whoever it is has an omigod great voice for new wave.

[Edited to add: Thanks to locke61dv for turning me on to this.]

Thanks, great stuff. "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here" is probably my favorite Weezer tune, but this cover sounds very little like the original, which might be why you don't recognize it.

Any other chiptune recommendations? I like She a lot (particularly Chiptek), and The 8-Bit Construction Set is classic (from before it was a genre).

At some point I got bored and listened to every 8bitpeoples release; I haven't explored too far beyond them. I like the frenetic/dense stuff most, although Random is probably both the closest to my heart and the least berserk of the people below, so hm. Favorites:

Random - both EPs but especially the first

Anamanaguchi - their new (non-free, non-8bp) LP is great too

David Sugar

Goto80 - IDM with occasional screaming

and of course Bit Shifter - this EP is incredible; I liked his album but only a few of the songs were at this level.

Oh! And if you like hip-hop at all, there's a great chiptune mashup EP by Mark VII: http://netilium.org/~mad/markvii/

I also remember liking something (and not everything) by Psilodump, but I can't remember what. The new Psilodump 2xCD album has been sitting in my listen pile for months, so I don't know anything about it.
